Canoe down Black Canyon as training for the Louisiana Swamp Base High Adventure.
Some details on this event. We will leave early in the morning on Saturday March 22nd at around 5:00AM like we normally do on our kayak trips.
We will stop in Barstow for breakfast, please bring cash for this food stop with you.
We should arrive in Boulder City Nevada around 11:00AM on Saturday morning.
The plan is to stay at Boulder Beach Campground, it is right on Lake Mead. We will camp there on Saturday night.
For meals on Saturday, and Sunday breakfast, we will try and do this is a group. Make sure you bring your Mess Kit with you though, we will not have enough eating utensils for everyone.
On Saturday afternoon, we could go down and tour Hoover Dam if there is enough interest. This will add an additional $30 to the trip, or we can plan to bring that cash with us. We have to pay on site. If this is of interest, please let me know.
On Sunday Morning we will eat breakfast and pack up camp. We will meet the people at a Hotel, I do not yet know which one, and we will then be transported to the river for launch.
We will launch just below Hoover Dam and then paddle down the river for about 6 miles to Arizona Hot Springs. Along the whtere are a couple of sites we can visit, like Boy Scout Canyon.
We will have lunch on the river and camp on the river on Sunday. The idea here is that we will work in Patrols and each patrol will bring the food they need and their cookware for cooking on this stretch. We will use lightweight, backpacking stoves for this.
On Monday morning we will have our breakfast and paddle down to Willow Beach Nevada where the outfitter will pick us up and take us back to our cars. Along this section of the river we may also have some time to investigate some sites along the way.
We will then have dinner and camp back at Boulder City Beach campground on Monday night.
We will then get up on Tuesday morning, eat a group breakfast and leave back to California. We will again stop in Barstow for lunch, please remember to have some cash for that.
I expect we will get back on Tuesday around 3 or 4 PM, depending on how things go along the way.
Remember gang, the time we have during the day on this trip is shorter than we are normally used to, while the distances on this trip or short, if we want to see things along the way, then we need to keep the paddling going. We are going to focus on learning how to control the boats, working as a team, and learning to stay together and KEEP UP! This is a training trip for the Lousiana Swamp base, where the distances are going to be far greater than what we are doing on this trip.
