YOU MUST SIGN UP SEPARATELY FOR THIS SB ZOO TRIP -
YOU ARE NOT AUTOMATICALLY SIGNED UP FOR THE SB ZOO IF YOU ARE
LISTED ON THE AQUARIUM EVENT LIST ON THE TROOP WEBSITE.
Mr. Barron will send an email closer to the date about anything specific to bring, what to wear and with more specifics about what animals and ecology we will see and expect on our trip.
The following are key points made in planning our visit to the aquarium:
1. The zoo is somewhat busy on Saturdays so it is best for us to arrive right when they open. It is about a 45 minute to one hour drive to the zoo depending on traffic at that time on a Saturday. Thus, we will plan to meet at 8:30 am at the church and leave by about 8:45 am.
The zoo opens at 9:30 am and we have our first encounter at 11:00 am.
DO NOT BE LATE - we will leave without you!
2. The cost listed of $70.00 includes price of admission and the special animal encounters, parking for the cars and gas money for drivers.
FOOD or ANY SOUVENIR costs are NOT included in this price.
3. This is a general agenda for our visit:
- 9:30 am (zoo opens) - arrive at the zoo, check-in
DUE TO THE PRE-SCHEDULED TALKS, THE GROUP MUST STAY ENTIRELY TOGETHER UNTIL 2:30 to 3:00 PM OR SO
- 9:45 am to 11:00 am - Mr. Barron tours some aspects of the zoo with the entire group
- 11:00 am Giraffe Hard Yard Behind-the-scenes group tour
- 11:45 am California Condor Talk and Feed
- 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm - have lunch. There is food available for purchase at the zoo (hot dogs, nachos, etc.), but you are also welcome to bring your own lunch with you which will be faster than purchasing food at the zoo. You can choose either one for this trip. There are several places within the zoo where we can eat our lunch.
WE MUST BE DONE WITH LUNCH BY 1:00 PM for the next talk.
- 1:15 pm Gibbon or Red Panda Keeper talk
- 1:45 pm Private Reptile or bird presentation at the Amphitheatre
- 2:30 pm or so to 5:00 pm or whenever various cars want to leave - Mr. Barron explains some other specific and important aspects of key cool animal stuff. Some of this time, groups will split up into smaller groups and complete activities and a competition that Mr. Barron has planned.
- 5:00 pm - zoo closes and everyone must leave - head out from zoo to go home or to have dinner somewhere on the way back to Ventura. This needs to be decided well in advance and thus final car assignments and arrangements will be made at our Thursday, March 6 troop meeting.
IF YOUR CAR DECIDES TO STOP FOR DINNER, THEN PLEASE BRING MONEY OR A CARD TO PAY FOR YOUR OWN DINNER.
Scouts WILL demonstrate the principles of the Scout Oath and Law and Outdoor Code AT ALL TIMES as we represent our troop and national BSA during our visit.
Mr. Barron will send an email closer to the date about anything specific to bring, what to wear and with more specifics about what animals and ecology we will see and expect on our trip.
